The allies have left the NDA and there is no such alliance now. In the same way, there are very few parties left with the UPA. Many regional parties are not ready to work under the Congress leadership in the UPA. Therefore, to create a group against the incumbent government, there is a need to go for the restructuring of the UPA. This new alliance should be led by a senior leader like Sharad Pawar. If that happens, then many more parties can join the alliance in the future. But this is not possible without the consent of Congress. This future of the (restructured) alliance will depend on the sacrifice and liberality of the Congress.

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will visit Assam on Monday (March 1) to campaign for party candidates for upcoming Assembly election. People aware of the development told Hindustan Times that Vadra will first visit the Kamakhya temple, a well-know pilgrimage site in Guwahati, and then proceed to other cities for campaigning. MLA PC George has vowed that he will contest from Poonjar constituency again. He alleged that UDF cheated him and asserted that he won’t join any front for the Assembly polls. “Oommen Chandy blocked my entry to UDF. He is plotting against Ramesh Chennithala. I will make more revelations about Oommen Chandy in the press meet scheduled on Wednesday,” PC George added. He also revealed that UDF held talks on fielding him as an independent candidate from Kanjirappally. The MLA raised sharp criticism against UDF over this matter.
Grateful to him (Rahul Gandhi) for driving the tractor for farmers and swimming in the sea for fish workers – Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan
Rahul Gandhi’s expertise in scuba diving has been the talk of the town in Kerala. His venture into the deep sea with YouTube channel ‘Fishing Freaks’ has been happily lapped up by social media. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who is rarely sarcastic, expressed ‘gratitude for Rahul’s love for Kerala.’ “Grateful to him for driving the tractor for farmers and swimming in the sea for fish workers,” he said. The CM’s one-liner jibe against Rahul too has spread like wildfire on social media with ‘explainers’ by Left handles, on how Congress and UPA have deceived fish workers in policy matters. However, even political observers who are sympathetic to the Left do not dismiss Rahul’s pivotal role in Kerala politics.
Every party has a grassroots leader. BJP fights every election in the same manner. Be it a small election or the genral. The efforts & hard work their leadership puts in is remarkable. It is not just about leadership. Everyone in the party has to focus to win. We have to sit down & draw a strategy for win.
Addressing a rally in Jammu Azad was all praises for Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a rally in Jammu. Praising Modi for being true to his roots, he said it was something which he really liked despite being rivals on political grounds. Weeks ago, the Prime Minister had also broken the barrier of political rivalry as he bid an emotional farewell to former J&K CM Ghulam Nabi Azad just before his term as a Rajya Sabha MP expired. Some of the ’23 dissenters’ led by Ghulam Nabi Azad along with Manish Tewari, Anand Sharma, Vivek Tankha, Akhilesh Prasad Singh, Raj Babbar, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Kapil Sibal held a ‘Shanti Sammelan’ in Jammu, as part of a 3-day visit in Jammu to chalk out the future course of action and hold several public meetings.
We’re Political rivals but I appreciate that he doesn’t hide his true self – Ghulam Nabi Azad praises PM Modi
Days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi heaped effusive praise on Ghulam Nabi Azad, the senior Congress leader returned the favour on Sunday. “I like lot of things about many leaders. I’m from a village and feel proud of it … even our PM hails from village and used to sell tea. We’re political rivals but I appreciate that he doesn’t hide his true self. Those who do, are living in bubble,” Azad said.
I know the amount of money that was thrown at MLAs in M.P., Rajasthan, we’re talking massive amounts of money. When you have a party that is fighting elections with thousands & thousands of crores & other parties are not allowed to raise finance. Now India is entering a phase quite like when we were fighting the British that we cannot rely on the institutions to protect our democracy anymore, we can only rely on the people of the country. We can keep doing reservations but unless Indian men start to view Indian women with the same lens that they view themselves, the real change is not going to happen.
DMK formed a seven-member committee to discuss seat-sharing talks with Congress and other allies. Party General Secretary Duraimurugan said the panel would be headed by Treasurer T.R. Baalu. K.N. Nehru, I. Periyasamy, K. Ponmudi, Subbulakshmi Jagadeesan, Organising Secretary R.S. Bharathi and E.V. Velu would be part of the team, he added. Congress leaders Randeep Surjewala, Oomen Chandy, and Dinesh Gundu Rao met DMK representatives on Friday to negotiate seat-sharing talks and as per reports, Congress raised a demand for 54 seats as opposed to 41 that it contested from in the previous election.
A nation is balanced between its institutions. If the balance is disturbed, the nation is disturbed. That is the central idea….Over the last 6 years, there has been a systematic attack on elected institutions and the free press that hold the nation together. Democracy doesn’t die with a bang, it dies slowly. I am sad to tell you that democracy in Indis is dead, it does not exist. The concentration of capital has combined with the RSS to destroy the institutional balance in the country.
Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi today attacked the BJP government in Thoothukudi saying that there has been a systematic attack on elected institutions and free press in the last six years. ”India is entering a phase very much like the British era. We cannot rely on the institutions to protect our democracy anymore. We can only rely on the people of the country.” alleged Rahul Gandhi while interacting with lawyers at VOC College in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. During the interaction, Rahul Gandhi termed the CAA discriminatory on many counts. He also said that Congress is opposed to farm laws and is fighting against them.
Himachal Pradesh: 5 Congress MLAs Suspended for Entire Budget Session for Manhandling Governor Bandaru Dattatreya
Unruly scenes were witnessed on the first day of the budget session of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly here on Friday when protesting MLAs of the opposition Congress tried to stop Governor Bandaru Dattatraya from leaving the premises after he delivered his address in the House. The agitating members blocked Dattatraya’s exit from the building and later his vehicle for around 10-15 minutes. Both the Congress and ruling BJP members later traded allegations of manhandling and assault during the commotion. Speaker Vipin Parmar said the Congress MLAs, including Leader of the Opposition Mukesh Agnihotri, were suspended on a motion moved by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Bhardwaj.
In the first-ever show of strength, the dissenters in the Congress (G23) shared a public platform in Jammu and participated in the Shanti Sammelan, raising internal issues of the Congress like party becoming weak in the past decade, leadership, while at the same time, sharing a piece of advice for the young generation. Congress dissenters were addressing the event in Jammu at a time when Congress chief Rahul Gandhi was busy campaigning in Tamil Nadu.
We respect all religions, people & castes – Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad while speaking at Shanti Sammelan in Jammu
Be it Jammu or Kashmir or Ladakh, we respect all religions, people & castes. We equally respect everyone, that is our strength and we will continue with this. In the last 5-6 yrs, all these friends (referring to fellow party colleagues) did not speak any less than me in the Parliament over J&K, its unemployment, stripping off of statehood, finishing off industries & education, implementation of GST.
All of us have covered a very long distance to reach where we are today. Nobody among us has come through the window, all of us have walked through the door. We have come through the students’ movement, the youth movement. Congress has weakened in the last decade. Our voice is for the betterment of the party. It should be strengthened everywhere once again. New generation should connect (to party). We’ve seen good days of Congress. We don’t want to see it weakening as we become older. There has never come such an occasion after 1950 when there is no representative of Jammu & Kashmir in the Rajya Sabha. This will be corrected.
What is the real role of Ghulam Nabi Azad sahab? A person who flies an aircraft is an experienced person. An engineer accompanies him to detect & repair any malfunctioning in the engine. Ghulam Nabi ji is experienced as well as engineer. The truth is that we see Congress party getting weak. That is why we have gathered here. We had gathered together earlier too and we have to strengthen the party together. He is one such leader who knows the ground reality of Congress in every district of every state. We were saddened when we realised that he is being freed from Parliament. We didn’t want him to go from Parliament…I can’t understand why is Congress not using his experience.
In the first-ever show of strength, the dissenters in the Congress (G23) shared a public platform in Jammu and participated in the Shanti Sammelan, raising internal issues of the Congress like party becoming weak in the past decade. “People say ‘G23’, I say Gandhi 23. With the belief, resolve & thinking of Mahatma Gandhi, this nation’s law & Constitution was formed. Congress is standing strongly to take these forward. ‘G23’ want Congress to be strong,” Congress leader Raj Babbar said in Jammu.
The G-23 is a passionate, resolute, committed and experienced Congress team that cares deeply for the future of the Congress party. It needs your support if you want a dynamic, secular, liberal, progressive India with good governance. Those who call it as “ rebels” mislead you.
Congress and the DMK began seat negotiations for the coming assembly elections in Tamil Nadu on Thursday in which the former asked its partner for at least 54 seats, two Congress leaders said on the condition of anonymity. With elections due in less than two months, former Kerala chief minister Oomen Chandy and Congress’ chief of communications Randeep Surjewala held talks with DMK leaders in Chennai. DMK chief Stalin didn’t participate in these talks.
CPI(M) alleged that Rahul Gandhi’s attack against Left was similar to that of the words being used by the BJP to flay the party
Kerala’s ruling CPI(M) on Wednesday accused former Congress president Rahul Gandhi of talking like “a recruitment agent of the BJP”, a day after the Congress leader lashed out at the state government over various issues including the gold smuggling case. In a statement, the CPI(M) state secretariat claimed Gandhi did not even make a weak criticism of the BJP in his speech at the Congress rally on Tuesday. “He spoke like a recruitment agent of the BJP. It was shocking,” the party said. The CPI(M) and Congress are allies in Bengal but clearly at each other’s throats in Kerala.
Your former CM was an expert in lifting the slippers of his top party leaders – PM Modi’s Jibe on V Narayanasamy & Rahul Gandhi in Puducherry
These development works cover roads, healthcare, education, culture, sport and marine economy. What I am seeing here today — the energy and enthusiasm — is wonderful. It shows how the direction of the wind is changing in Puducherry. In 2016, Puducherry didn’t get a people’s govt. They got a govt that was busy serving the Congress high command in Delhi, their priorities were different. Your former CM was an expert in lifting the slippers of his top party leaders. The high command Congress government in Puducherry made it a point to damage every sector of governance. Traditional mills closed. Local industry was troubled. Congress doesn’t believe in working for the people.
Congress now finding fault with Rahul Gandhi’s remarks on South Indians taking issues more seriously than those from North
Not just the BJP, but a section in the Congress are also now finding fault with Rahul Gandhi’s remarks on South Indians taking issues more seriously than those from the North, exposing a division in the party over the former party chief’s stand on issues. On a day Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala targeted the BJP for its criticism of Rahul on the issue, senior Congress leader Anand Sharma openly expressed his opposition to the remarks and said the party never “disrespected a region” and Rahul should clarify his statement to clear “conjecture or misunderstandings”.
Congress never divided the country. Each part of India is equally important. North India has also contributed a lot. We had front-ranking leaders of the freedom struggle – Motilal Nehru, JL Nehru, Dr Rajendra Prasad, Govind Vallabh Pant, Lala Lajpat Rai just to name a few. After independence there have been illustrious PMs – Pt Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Atal Bihari Vajpayee – they all represented UP. Recently it was Dr Manmohan Singh from north India, so Congress has never disrespected a region.
Smriti Irani hit out at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his remark at a rally in Kerala that has triggered a ‘north-south’ row
Union minister Smriti Irani on Wednesday hit out at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his remark at a rally in Kerala that has triggered a ‘north-south’ row and has also drawn sharp responses from other Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders. “The spiteful and vengeful politics of Rahul Gandhi, which insults not only the people and voters of Amethi but seeks to create a divide between the north and south India, is to be condemned by every Indian citizen,” Irani told media.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi turned seafarer and pulled the net with local fisherman in high sea here to get a taste of their life and understand the issues facing them. In an emotional talk with thousands of fisherfolk, including women gathered at the Thangassery beach in this southern coastal district, the Nehru scion said he admired and respected what the fishermen do. “I understand and respect what you do. I admire what you are doing. Many times, we eat the fish but we will not understand the hard work behind and how it reached our plate,” Gandhi said.
We will bring a no-trust motion against the govt as this govt has lost the trust of people and MLAs. 2 Independent MLAs who were with govt have left them, Their alliance party MLAs are also abusing them. We will bring a no-trust motion and then everything will become clear.
Congress-led Puducherry government will undergo a floor test on Monday. The floor test was ordered by Lieutenant Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan. Tamilisai asked Chief Minister Narayanasamy to prove its majority in the assembly. The ruling Congress-DMK alliance has 11 MLAs in the 33-member Legislative Assembly. The opposition has 14 members. Earlier on Sunday, two more ruling alliance’s MLAs resigned. They are Congress’ K Lakshminarayanan and DMK’s Venkatesan. Lakshminarayanan and Venkatesan submitted their resignation letters separately to Assembly Speaker VP Sivakolundhu at his residence.
The TRS has decided to field late PV Narasimha Rao’s daughter S Vani Devi as its candidate for the Graduate MLC election from Hyd-Rangareddy-Mahbubnagar seat. She will file her papers on Monday. Since the last day for nominations is February 23, the decision comes as a surprise for the party workers and even Ministers and MLAs. The indications from the party so far was that it would stay away from the elections in this constituency and extend support to Independent candidate K. Nageshwar, which was opposed within the party quite strongly.
Delhi High Court on Monday sought the response of Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, her son Rahul and other accused in the National Herald case on a plea by BJP MP Subramanian Swamy seeking to lead evidence in the matter before the trial court. Congress-led government in Puducherry lost the confidence vote in the Legislative Assembly on Monday. Assembly Speaker VP Sivakolundhu said announced that the Narayanasamy government could not prove its majority and adjourned the House sine die. Though Narayanasamy moved the motion seeking the confidence vote minutes after the Assembly met for a special one-day session, he and his ruling side MLAs later walked out before the motion was put for voting. Subsequently, the Speaker declared that the motion stood defeated.
MLAs should stay loyal to the party. MLAs who have resigned will not be able to face the people as people will call them opportunists. The BJP government at the Centre, NR Congress and AIADMK have succeeded in dislodging our government by using voting power used by 3 nominated members. This is murder of democracy. The people of Puducherry and this country will teach them a lesson. Myself, ministers, Congress and DMK MLAs and independent legislator have tendered resignation and sought it be accepted.
Supreme Court allows Karti Chidambaram to travel abroad, facing several criminal cases related to the Aircel-Maxis deal
Supreme Court on Monday allowed Congress MP Karti Chidambaram, who is facing criminal cases that are being probed by the ED and the CBI, to travel abroad. Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Saturday reacted on party MLA Sukhdev Panse’s derogatory remark on actor Kangana Ranaut who referred her as ‘naachne gaane waali’. Taunting the actor, Congress leader Sukhdev Panse said, “Kangana jaisi nachne gane wali mahila kisanon ke swabhiman ko thes pahuchaye (Kangana is hurting the self-respect of farmers)…Police baton charges Congress, who’s standing for farmers…” the Congress leader made this comment on Friday while submitting a memorandum to district collector over lathi-charge on party workers in Sarni. It also questioned how the toolkit was connected to the violence during the farmers’ march. Kapil Sibal’s son is representing Disha Ravi in court. Akhil Sibal is representing the climate activist pro bono.
Since he has no political background or experience, I think his impact is likely to be minimal – Tharoor on E Sreedharan’s impact
With E Sreedharan throwing his hat in the political ring by deciding to join the BJP, senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Sunday said the technocrat is likely to have a “minimal” impact on the upcoming Kerala Assembly polls, and asserted that the BJP is not a serious contender except in a few seats in the state. Tharoor also said it will be very difficult for the BJP to improve upon its performance of winning one seat in the 2016 assembly polls and the high point of Sreedharan’s impact on Kerala elections will turn out to be the announcement of joining the BJP itself.

Uttam Kumar Reddy was addressing a meeting at Tripuraram on Sunday. Besides Jana Reddy and Ramulu Naik, other Congress senior leaders including Shankar Naik, Madhavi and Karnati Linga Reddy also addressed the meeting. Addressing the meeting, Uttam Kumar Reddy said that neither the BJP Government at the Centre nor TRS Government in the State, did anything for the people of Telangana, especially the voters of Nagarjuna Sagar constituency. The TPCC Chief strongly condemned Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao for skipping the meeting of NITI Aayog held on Saturday under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
As the Chief Minister of Telangana, KCR should have participated in the meeting – N Uttam Kumar Reddy
As the Chief Minister of Telangana, KCR should have participated in the meeting to raise issues concerning the State. By skipping the meeting, KCR has sent a clear message that either he is not interested in the development of Telangana or he has completely surrendered before the Modi Govt and giving it a free hand to do whatever it wants. It is highly unfortunate that Telangana got a CM who only rests at his palatial bungalow ‘Pragathi Bhavan’ or the farm house. But he never finds time to meet people to listen to their grievances and resolve them. While other CMs presented a wishlist for their respective States, CM KCR decided to take rest by assigning the job to Chief Secretary Somesh Kuma.

Shame on the BJP for targeting elected Congress governments – Puducherry Chief Minister Narayanasway
No one will be surprised, if a BJP-led or BJP-backed government somehow manages to get on the saddle. This is the same script that is playing out in each state, say political analysts. “This is the BJP’s style of functioning. They will poach and buy MLAs. They have done it in Manipur, Arunachal, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh…they are only purchasing MLAs. Shame on the BJP for targeting elected Congress governments,” the Chief Minister Narayanasway told NDTV on Tuesday, even as he asserted that his government is not in a minority.
On a one-day visit to Puducherry, Gandhi interacted with the fishing community, followed by a meeting with students of Bharathidasan Government College for Women and wrapped it up with a public meeting. I felt tremendous pain. But I don’t feel angry. I don’t feel any hatred. I forgive,” Gandhi said.

The Congress has recorded a clean sweep in Punjab’s seven municipal corporations in the state local body polls. The Congress won Moga, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, Abohar, Pathankot, Batala, and Bathinda municipal corporations as results for local body polls were declared on Wednesday. The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) failed to open their accounts. Counting of votes for the polling to over 100 civic bodies in Punjab was held amid tight security. According to the state Election Commission, over 70 per cent of voting was recorded in the civic body elections on February 14.
The ruling Congress swept the urban local body polls in Punjab leaving both Shiromani Akali Dal and BJP far behind, as the results began to trickle in. It’s the first election result following the farmers’ agitation and the split between SAD and BJP. The poll results are also being seen in certain quarters as a referendum on the farm laws brought by the Centre and a significant pointer to political headwinds in the state ahead of the Assembly elections next year.

They killed the father of our Nation. How can we expect any patriotism from such people (Sangh Parivar),” he questioned. He further alleged that the Sangh Parivar has destroyed the communal harmony of the entire coastal region by infusing its poisonous ideology.

I was president of the state youth Congress of Jammu and Kashmir in 1975. I worked on many positions in the party. I worked with many Prime Ministers. I consider myself fortunate that I got to work for the nation. I am happy that I was able to perform my duties honestly. I got the opportunity to understand the world and the country. I am totally satisfied with my work as a politician. I believe that I will continue to serve the public till I am alive.
I am thankful to the PM, President and colleagues of the various parties who showered their praise on me – Ghulam Nabi Azad
We understand some people superficially while others in-depth. Those who understood me in-depth and saw my work over the years became emotional. I am thankful to the PM, President and colleagues of the various parties who showered their praise on me and with whom I got the opportunity to work. I am thankful to all for their wishes. You will see me at many places. I am free now. I have no wish to be MP, Minister or hold any position in the party. I have done enough work. I am okay with whatever party decides. My fight is for how the party will be strengthened, my fight is not against any individual or against anyone.
Responding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s jibe made during the Budget Session, senior Congress leader P Chidambaram on Wednesday called himself a proud ‘andolan jeevi’ (one who thrives on protests) and the quintessential ‘andolan jeevi’, according to him, was Mahatma Gandhi. “I am a proud andolan jeevi. Yogendra Yadav is the one responsible for inciting farmers that led to violence on January 26 – Congress MP Ravneet Singh Bittu
Yogendra Yadav is the one responsible for inciting farmers that led to violence on January 26. If the government nabs him (Yadav) it will be able to talk directly to the farmers. He is the one who would earlier talk about farm reforms. No farmer is against the country. The people of Punjab can never do anything to harm the dignity of the Tricolour.
I have known Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad for years. We were Chief Ministers together. We had interacted even before I became Chief Minister, when Azad Sahab was very much in active politics. He has a passion not many know about – gardening. I will never forget Ghulam Nabi Azad’s efforts and Shri Pranab Mukherjee’s efforts when people from Gujarat were stuck in Kashmir due to a terror attack. Ghulam Nabi Ji was constantly following up, he sounded as concerned as if those stuck were his own family members. My doors are always open for you. I will not let you retire.
Former Punjab minister Navjot Singh Sidhu on Monday met Congress president Sonia Gandhi at her residence here and it is learnt that they discussed considering an active role for him in the party, sources said. It is speculated that Sidhu, who has remained away from Punjab politics ever since he resigned from the state cabinet, is reconsidering taking up a ministerial berth.
There is no prestige issue. If he (Rahul Gandhi) has some solution to offer, he must come and discuss. The Congress has not been able to convince people over farm laws, hence it is confusing them. Congress party has every right to question the government’s policies, but “it should not play politics over issues concerning the common man and poor. The farm laws are not against the farmers. The Modi government wants to improve the condition of farmers and increase their earnings.
I want to ask both Shashi Tharoor and Rahul Gandhi to discuss any one specific issue – Union minister Smriti Irani
Union minister Smriti Irani on Tuesday said that nobody takes Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s comments seriously. Speaking on India TV’s special show Budget Sammelan 2021, Irani who emerged as a giant killer in Amethi when she defeated Rahul in the 2019 general elections said, “What Rahul Gandhi says should not be taken seriously.” Responding to Congress leader Shashi Tharoor’s tweet, Irani asked, “I want to ask both Shashi Tharoor and Rahul Gandhi to discuss any one specific issue. The fact is that they don’t make any responsible comment ever.”
How much Rahul Gandhi knows about agriculture and farming is an open secret – Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad
How much Rahul Gandhi knows about agriculture and farming is an open secret. I invite him to speak in Parliament over the issue. Did Rahul Gandhi condemn Red Fort breach incident on January 26? The Tricolour was dishonoured, but the Congress leader was silent. For over 40 years, people of his family unfurled the national flag at Red Fort, but he didn’t utter a word over the incident. I should praise the Delhi Police and other security forces for the amount of restraint they showed. Policemen were attacked brutally, but they didn’t react.
Delhi Congress has passed a resolution to make Rahul Gandhi the president of the party with immediate effect. The resolution was passed unanimously in a meeting of the Delhi Congress office-bearers convened by Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) President Ch. Anil Kumar. “Ch Anil Kumar moved the resolutions, and one of the resolutions requested Rahul Gandhi to take over as the President of the Indian National Congress at the earliest. He said that considering the disturbed and dangerous political situation in the country, Congress needs a dynamic and powerful leader like Rahul Gandhi at the helm, to lead the party forcefully, to counter the communal, authoritarian, and undemocratic forces, trying to take the country on the path of destruction,” a Congress press communique read.

The elections were held in 3,035 wards of 90 urban local bodies across 20 districts. The results have been announced in 3,034 wards. Farmers Movement Discredited after January 26 Violence in National Capital – Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh
I do think that the movement has been discredited. The whole world was supporting the farmers. But the moment the violence came, and the symbol of the Red Fort was violated, was when the movement lost steam. I think that the government should continue its contact with the farmers and the farmers must go to the meetings. This must be resolved. It cannot continue like this. It isn’t for me to put the blame on any person or agency. But one thing must be understood, the government in power must take responsibility and that government is currently of BJP. They must own up to this fact and look into why they couldn’t understand the movement’s nature.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Palaniswami met State Governor Banwarilal Purohit over Release Of 7 Convicts In Rajiv Gandhi Assassination Case
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami on Friday met state Governor Banwarilal Purohit and took up the issue of the release of all 7 convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, said AIADMK Minister D Jayakumar. The Minister informed that Palaniswami had called on the Governor soon after chairing a Cabinet meeting in Chennai, to reiterate a September 2018 Cabinet resolution recommending the realise of the convicts. Jayakumar, who among other has accompanied Mr Palaniswami said, “The Chief Minister too up (with the Governor) the release of the 7 convicts.”
Congress on Friday said that it has set a target to win 100 seats in the upcoming assembly polls in Assam. Gearing up for the Assam assembly election – scheduled to take place in April-May this year – with an aim to oust BJP from power, the Congress party is also trying to consolidate support from the minority groups in Assam. Congress has also stitched an alliance with Badruddin Ajmal-led All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) and four other parties for the upcoming assembly polls.
The way the BJP-led government has continuously attacked the poor, farmers and minority people, the party is now facing anti-incumbency in Assam and also the rest of the country. We will reach out to the people to know their problems. We are confident that the Congress party will form the next government in Assam.
The BJP is targeting over 100 seats which is going to be a hoax. We are the grand alliance that will win 101 plus seats in the upcoming assembly polls. Another 5-6 like-minded parties will come forward to join us soon. The BJP-led government has ruined the social fabric of Assam. They have created only two ‘Dunia’s one is Muslim Dunia and another is non-Muslim Dunia, and they are trying to create fights among the two ‘Dunias’ with hatred by using communal polarisation. The social fabric of Assam will be ruptured if we don’t stop BJP from capturing power. So, it is our like-minded parties’ duty to come together and defeat BJP.
Shocking scenes in Delhi. The violence by some elements is unacceptable. It’ll negate goodwill generated by peacefully protesting farmers. Kisan leaders have disassociated themselves & suspended Tractor Rally. I urge all genuine farmers to vacate Delhi & return to borders.
Congress has, in a tweet, said that the national capital is in smoke as the government has attacked its own people, however, it is silent on violence by farmers
Even as farmers’ tractor rally turned violent on Tuesday, with visuals showing protesters climbing atop Red Fort and planting their flags, Congress has hailed them. On their official Twitter handle, Congress has said that the Centre should not underestimate their power and sharing visuals of tractor rally, Sonia Gandhi-led party has said that they support it. Moreover, Congress leader Pawan Khera has compared the violence during the farmers’ rally to that of protest after Nirbhaya gang-rape case in Delhi in 2012.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who has been supporting the farmers’ protest against the Centre’s farm laws, on Tuesday denounced the violence in Delhi by protestors. Gandhi, however, once again appealed that the agri laws should be taken back for country’s sake. “Violence is not the solution to any problem. Irrespective of who gets hurt, it is the country which will suffer. Take back the anti-agriculture law for the benefit of the country!” the former Congress president sain in his Hindi tweet.
