Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari asks Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) Govt to hold Assembly Speaker Election

Amid a tussle between Maharashtra governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari and the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), on Tuesday the governor asked the state government to hold an election for the speaker’s post during the state legislature budget session scheduled from March 1 in Mumbai. In the first week of November, the Maharashtra cabinet recommended to Koshyari for approval 12 names as members of the Legislative Council (MLCs) through Governor quota. He has not taken any decision on it yet. The post of Assembly Speaker has fallen vacant following the resignation of Nana Patole, who has been given the responsibility of state Congress president.
